Sioux Falls Stadium

When fans of baseball talk about Sioux Falls Stadium, they think about history. Because this venue in South Dakota is one of the oldest baseball field venues in the American Association.

It was originally built in 1941 to bring baseball to a city that hadn’t been reached by any of the MLB franchises. And the fans were spirited as they watched The Sioux Falls Canaries, their new favorite local sensation, compete against visiting teams in what became known as “The Birdcage”.

As the Canaries popularity grew, so did the need for more amenities and features at the intimate and warmly received baseball field. So it was later renovated in the year 2000 and now stands as a proud historic American Association baseball field. Every opening night, thousands of fans from both Sioux Falls and neighboring cities and states, would come to check out the fun and spend the day in one of the best sports venues in the state.

Sioux Falls Stadium Today

As you can guess, the stadium is primarily a baseball field. It’s built to serve over 4,000 fans who can enjoy one of America’s oldest sports, especially for all the home games of the Sioux Falls Canaries of the American Association.

The renovations in the 90s and early 2000s were designed to give the stadium all the amenities that larger MLB stadiums enjoy. This includes luxury box suites, expanded picnic areas, and a glass berm down the third base line. The exterior even features two ticket entrances and a beautiful brick wall that is the backdrop in many photos across social media.

It’s a family venue destination that has become a huge part of the lives of baseball fans across Sioux Falls and neighboring areas. And it’s a popular destination for baseball fans far beyond the borders of South Dakota.
